Progress Report - Term One

The jury at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) has judged my performance and works from September 2005 onwards and has come to the following scores:

PROGRESS REPORT - TERM ONE

Block 1 of 2

Lovely book submitted by Willem, quite beautifully executed. Work well edited (still refreshingly quirky) and Willem showed much self-motivation in the core, an interesting piece, well done.B = the work is of a HIGH standard
Tapestry, Loren SlaterWillem is hard working and showed high levels of creativity. The concept and execution of his pieces was good and he showed high levels of understanding of the wider context of his work. Some pieces were left unresolved.B = the work is of a HIGH standard
Sculpture, Natalie Taylor

Willem had a clear idea from the beginning about his piece, which explored three dimensional form both externally and internally very well. He worked methodolically during class, and although he missed the final day, managed to finish his work to a good standard after hours.C = the work is of a GOOD standard
Film/TV, Keith Bowman

Has fulfilled the majority of the specified learning outcomes to an acceptable level. Very high standard of presentation of work, unfortunately it lacked insight into what this mediums strengths are in terms of communicating drama and emotion.
D = the work is of an ACCEPTABLE standard
Core Drawing for Painting, Stephen Hunter Drawing is not Willem's strong point. He has discussed ways he could move drawing forward... using Photoshop and digital media for instance. He worked hard but had to miss some time so didn't have time to realize some of the ideas he talked about. He is a committed student and will find his way to do things.D = the work is of an ACCEPTABLE standard
Core Workshop, Nicola Murray

Willem could have done more drawing in his sketch book and might try to work through ideas more comprehensively on paper before making. He worked very hard throughout but needed a lot more time to resolve his piece. He used a range of processes with ability and intelligence but could work on his sensitivity in handling materials and attention to detail. Acceptable given the hard work.D = the work is of an ACCEPTABLE standard

In all, I feel very challenged to perform better. I was told that if I would like to major in Film/TV, I might have to apply with Colleges other than ECA as well to increase my chance of being accepted. The field of Art and Design is fiercely competitive, that I have learned!

NOTE: The grades of the second block of Term One have not yet been included with this Progress Report. I'm sure they will show improvement in the overall score.

Well well what an acceptable result of all your business. I think they gave a real idea of everything you created during september-december. So if you pay still more attention to the film activities..... it will be a higher result in the second term!
Good luck!
